About Us
We're a small family run business based in Arizona, but originally from England. We began as hobbyist wood-workers, small projects became bigger projects - I'm talking BIG, like brand new kitchen BIG...phew! Slogging away at the big projects can sometimes get you down, so what do you do? Go smaller and do something FUN! Go make a cutting board (or two) to go in your new kitchen...why not?
Hang on - we kinda liked it. I mean, we really liked it actually, and so did our friends! So we began making more, expanding to charcuterie boards too! By creating something so unique that encouraged people to gather together and share memories over a board became the focus of our spare time. We were creating something for others to use to gather their loved ones together and create memories around - that was, and still is, amazing to us!
We've been asked many questions about our craft along our journey - here's a few to give you a taste of what and how we do what we do:
How do you choose the materials you use?
Let's make something abundantly clear (and we thought this was strange too when we first realized it) - we don't typically choose the raw wood, it kinda chooses us - does that make sense? Let me explain. We don't buy perfect slabs of lumber - we take the roughest cuts, the gnarliest looking slabs because there'll be something that catches our eye about it - the potential is there, it just needs our attention, care and time to bring it out. Beneath the sawmill marks on a slab of walnut there can be beautiful swirls and whorls just waiting to be coaxed out, shaped and finished into something stunning!
What do you do with the knots?
The first thing we do is dig out any loose wood, dry or rotted pieces that could flake off. Once we have the clean knot we stabilize it with a very thin coating of clear epoxy to prevent any further loosening. We typically fill the knots - and our artisans carefully choose a complementary color or blend to bring out the natural beauty of the wood itself.
